Playwork is a unique professional approach developed on adventure playgrounds in the United Kingdom. A playworker's job is to protect space and time for children's activities that are "freely chosen, personally directed, and intrinsically motivated."

 

This is a tall order in environments like Houston, where children are often an afterthought during city planning and community investment. BCP's playworkers want to work with neighborhoods to create play opportunities that are safe, creative, and community-driven. We go to where children are: parks, libraries, schools, hospitals, and community centers and work with a wide variety of partner organizations to do so.
